$1 million lamp for $20

Alison's Lamp Finished

I flatter myself that someone would pay $1 million for this little beauty, but $1 million is exactly what it would take for me to part with it!  Days and days of blood, sweat, and tears went into the making of this lamp!  Ok, none of those bodily dramatizations were involved in the actual construction of said lighting implement, but suffice it to say, this DIY project is a commitment. But, I get ahead of myself. I live in an … [Read more...]

Paint Chip Bookmarks

on the shelf

In my life I have probably bought about 25 bookmarks. I use to really love them when I was younger, even though I wasn't much of a reader in my youth. Go figure. I have lost every single bookmark I've ever acquired. Although for some of them it may have been for the best. I had quite a few Lisa Frank bookmarks and stickers. You remember her stuff? Overly colorful dolphins and ice creams sundaes floating through space.  Penguins hugging and … [Read more...]

Music Monday: Lady Day

The Best of Billie Holiday

Today's Music Monday has been inspired by all the rain we've been having lately. Nothing goes better with a rainy day than Billie Holiday. Her unique voice takes me to another time and place. And I find that I can never get enough. Go ahead. Listen to Ms. Holiday. And slow down.   … [Read more...]

Cheap Chic Lamp Shade

finished shade

Greetings! Wow, we have some amazing projects to get posted! Alison and I have been hard at work on some beauties! Today's project is a crepe paper lamp shade. Yep, you read that right. Crepe paper. Lamp shade. A few months ago I was making a crepe paper garland and somehow it morphed into this idea and I have fallen in love with it. I especially love how this lamp shade looks like it could have come from a specialty store where everything is … [Read more...]

Little Red Chandelier

Wow! Am I excited for today's post! Just a little weekend project I did on Saturday ...that I'm in love with! Last week I hit the local thrift store and walked away with some treasures! Few things in life make me feel as amazing as finding hidden gems at the thrift store. May sound a little sad, but it's true. And I feel no shame. I have been trying to find the perfect little chandelier for months. Months. And there it was. Just waiting for … [Read more...]

Welcome Spring!

What an absolutely beautiful day! Sunny, temps in the 50s, birds chirping. Lovely. So I decided it was time to hang up my welcome spring banner.     Before I added the letters, I pulled out my sewing machine and went around the edges a couple times. Just to give it a little more personality.   I used my Cricut to cut out the letters then dabbed a bit of liquid chalk on the edges. Here you can see the effect of the … [Read more...]

Birds n’ Books

birds n' books

This afternoon, as I was wishing I could open up the windows and let in some fresh spring air, I decided my table needed a little re-do. Just a little taste of spring. Maybe if I start decorating for spring it'll help it along. Fingers crossed. Remember my three little birds? They've been patiently standing by for just the right event. Today they got their chance! Along with the little birds, I snatched a few of my favorite poetry books off the … [Read more...]

The Straight Stitch: fabric garland

fabric garland 2

Welcome to The Straight Stitch! This is where we feature a sewing project of some sorts. I want to start by saying that I am not sewing savvy. I only started trying to attempt sewing about a year ago. And even then it was with a group of friends who all have mad sewing skills. (Thanks ladies, you know who you are. *wink* *wink*)  I say this because I don't want anyone to ever think "I can't do that. I can't sew." I'm here to tell you, if I can do … [Read more...]
