Moustaches. An unexpected trend that I rather adore for some reason. They’re just so quirky.
So I decided to make some etched moustache glasses. The drinking kind, not the seeing kind.
And I love how they turned out! Every time I look at them it makes me smile.
Here’s what you’ll need:
-a set of glasses (I got mine from Walmart for $5.00)
-etching cream (found at Michael’s or Hobby Lobby)
-a paintbrush (one with stiff bristles works best)
Wash the glasses first to make sure the surface is clean.
This bottle of etching cream cost $20.00, but last for a long time. I’ve done five different projects with it and the bottles is still half full.
I found my moustache images just by doing a Google image search. Once the ‘staches were cut out of vinyl (on a vinyl cutting machine that I don’t own, yeah I still don’t have one) I stuck them on the glasses and made sure they were nice and secure.
The instructions on the etching cream bottle say to apply a thick layer of etch cream and leave it on the glass for five minutes. That is a bunch of hooey! Every glass etching project I’ve done has required the etch cream to remain on the glass at least 30 minutes.
This is what has worked for me: apply a thick layer of etch cream with a small paintbrush, make sure to brush up and down and left and right. Leave the etch cream on the glass for 30 minutes, brushing the cream around the stencil every 10 minutes. Rinse the etch cream off BEFORE removing the stencil. I just run it under the tap in the sink until all the etch cream is removed. Then remove the stencil and clean with glass cleaner. Then I run them through the dishwasher once before using them.
Can’t help but smile huh?
Until next time….
