One thing I have always hated about our house, and actually most houses come to think of it, is that the thermostat is right smack in the middle of the wall like it’s a shrine to the temperature gods or something.
I tried hanging pictures on the sides of the thermostat but it just made it stand out even more. Last summer we finally got central air in our home (hallelujah!) and with that a new thermostat. We bought a Sensi wi-fi thermostat and I never thought I’d love a thermostat so much. A wi-fi thermostat means you can control it from an app on your phone. Anywhere you are. At anytime. You can also program it to turn on & off at specific times in the day. Essentially you never have to even touch the unit that is attached to the wall. And that, my friends, is exactly perfect for my thermostat shrine dilemma.
With Curt’s help, I built a framed magnet board. Ok, so Curt built it and I mostly watched. He used 1×2 inch pine for the base. Then stapled a piece of sheet metal on top of the frame. To give it a nice finished look and cover up the staples he attached some trim. Before he stapled the sheet metal to the frame I spray painted it white.
The two inches it sticks out from the wall is enough space for the thermostat to hide behind it.
Last fall I shared my block font art and that was actually what sparked this whole thing. I love quotes and typography like you wouldn’t believe and wanted a place to share more than one at a time. After my quotes were finished I attached self-adhesive magnets in each corner.
No more thermostat eye sore and a spectacular place to display favorite quotes, sayings, song lyrics, anything that strikes my fancy. And the best part is I can easily change them out whenever I want.
Since we’re such Disneyland fanatics I made a handful of sayings that are positively dripping with Disney magic.
Until next time….
