Hello lovely readers!
I’ve got another halloween project for you today. And, I must confess, this is my favorite halloween decoration I’ve ever done!
This is my halloween tree.
Are you loving it as much as me?
I started with an old plastic planter and painted it black.
I combed the yard for the perfect branches then cut all the leaves off.
Using a giant tin can and some grout I secured the branches in the can. (I probably would have bought plaster, but I had some grout in the garage that wasn’t getting used so I figured it’d work just fine…and it did.)
After the grout hardened I filled the empty space with newspaper.
Using some very messy spanish moss I cover the can and newspaper.
I topped it all off with a couple of ravens and Blamo! The beginnings of a fabulous halloween tree!
The one reason I hear people give over and over for not liking halloween is that they hate the gory aspect.
I couldn’t agree more!!!
That gross, horrific, keep-you-awake-at-night-it’s-so-scary is NOT what halloween is about. And I’m convinced it was never intended to be that. In doing a Google image search for vintage halloween postcards to hang on my tree it was very apparent that halloween is suppose to be just plain fun. Good, wholesome, enjoyable (not terrifying) fun with maybe just a dash of eerie.
Look at all these fantastic halloween postcards!
They’re just so invinting.
They say “come and enjoy this ridiculously fun holiday that is halloween”.
And a few ravens give us that little dash of eerie.
If I had a fantastic covered porch, which I don’t (briefly lamented about here), I’d probably have this little beauty out there to greet all my visitors. This one wouldn’t do too well in the rain and, sometimes, snow we get in the fall.
Hmmm……
I think I just got a new project idea….
I’ll let ya know how that one develops.
Until next time…
-Meg
